12 December 2022 Changes to the invitation requirements for skilled visas 190 and 491 in NSW


NSW has updated some of its rules in relation to the minimum number of points and work experience. These are no longer required for some candidates.


Subclass 190 Skilled visa


NSW no longer requires candidates to meet the minimum points and work experience for the invitation for this visa.


Subclass 491 Regional Skilled visa


Regarding the 491 Regional Skilled visa, there are currently two Pathways available (1 and 2) and two nomination streams in Pathway 1:


Pathway 1

You apply for invitation directly with a Regional Development Australia (RDA)

  • Stream A

  • “To apply under this stream, you must be currently living and working in a designated regional area of NSW and have continuously done so for the past 12 months”

Candidates ARE NOT required to have the minimum points and work experience for invitation under this stream.

  • Stream B

  • To apply under this stream, you must be currently living anywhere in NSW or offshore for at least the last 3 months and have an occupation on the Stream B Skills List.

Candidates ARE required to have the minimum points and work experience for invitation under this stream. ​


Pathway 2

You apply for invitation directly with NSW - To apply under this pathway, you must be currently living and working anywhere in NSW offshore for at least the last 3 months and have an occupation on the Pathway 2 Skills List.


Candidates ARE NOT required to have the minimum points and work experience for invitation under this stream.
